MOFA welcomes overseas delegations

2024/11/06

The visits by a parliamentary delegation from Paraguay and a gubernatorial group from the U.S. state of Idaho are sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nov. 4.

Visiting Taiwan Nov. 4-8 at the MOFA’s invitation, the Paraguayan contingent is led by Senate President Basilio Gustavo Núñez Giménez and comprises Derlis Hernán Maidana Zarza, Patrick Paul Kemper Thiede and Sergio Roberto Rojas Sosa, all making their first visit to Taiwan. The ministry said the delegation is in Taiwan to gain a deeper understanding of local economic and social developments, promote parliamentary exchanges and expand bilateral cooperation.

In addition to an audience with President Lai Ching-te, the group will also attend banquets hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Legislative Yuan President Daniel Han and call on the National Health Insurance Administration, International Cooperation Development Fund, Taiwan External Trade Development Council and other key economic facilities. They will also meet with Paraguayan students studying in Taiwan at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taipei City.

The group from Idaho is led by Governor Brad Little, the MOFA said, adding that highlights of the group’s visit include a meeting with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim during the Nov. 4-6 trip. Statistics show that Taiwan has been Idaho’s second largest global partner for the past seven years, with semiconductors accounting for 40 percent of the bilateral trade.
