The 2024 Asia Pacific Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Workshop was held Aug. 6-7 at the National Health Research Institutes in Miaoli County, northern Taiwan, bringing regional academics, experts and officials together to exchange views on key health issues and explore ways to expand multilateral cooperation.
Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare Health Promotion Administration said the event was organized in collaboration with Taiwan Association for Global Health Initiative and the NHRI’s Institute of Population Health Sciences; as well as the Honolulu-based Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health’s Collaborating Centres for Health Promotion, which is located in Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung.
During the first day of the event, academics from National Taiwan University, National University of Singapore, University of Tokyo and Korea’s Health Promotion Institute and Yonsei University enjoyed focused discussions. Topics included artificial intelligence healthcare applications; early diagnosis and treatment to increase lung cancer survival rate and quality of life; and case studies addressing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in their respective countries, the HPA said.
The HPA said the organizers invited seed educators from seven local universities and top international speakers to an in-depth roundtable discussion on the second day to share design breakthroughs in case studies, particularly on those related to obesity.
The workshop served as a platform to share innovative insights on tackling health challenges, the HPA said. It added that it welcomed more international programs connecting Taiwan with its Asia-Pacific partners to achieve health parity across the region.
