NSTC delegation tours Finland, France to expand quantum technology cooperation

2024/07/05

A delegation organized by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council visited Finland and France in late June to seek expanded cooperation in quantum technology, the NSTC said July 3.

Led by Luo Meng-fan, director-general of the NSTC’s Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development, the group included officials and experts from the NSTC Quantum Program Office, Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute and Industrial Technology Research Institute.

According to the NSTC, a major stop on the group’s itinerary was the 2024 Inside Quantum Technology Nordics Helsinki held June 24-26 in Espoo.

At the event, Chang Wen-hao, executive officer of the NSTC quantum program, shared strategies and highlighted Taiwan’s key role in the global sector given the country’s semiconductor manufacturing prowess and top-notch talent pool. The delegates and their Finnish counterparts also took part in a workshop to discuss ways to enhance cooperation.

In France, the group called on key R&D institutions such as Paris-Saclay University; met with Grenoble Alpes University President Yassine Lakhnech and executives from the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission and French National Centre for Scientific Research; and visited quantum computing startups including Quandela, Pasqal and Quobly.

As part of its related promotion efforts, the NSTC will host the Quantum Taiwan 2024 conference in October, inviting officials and experts from Japan, France and other partner countries.
