Taiwan and the U.S. hosted consultations June 21 in Taipei City on expanding Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the U.N. system and other international fora, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The one-day event was convened by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. and the American Institute in Taiwan, and involved representatives from the MOFA and the U.S. Department of State, the ministry added.
During the consultations, the State Department said Taiwan’s world-class expertise offers considerable added value in tackling today’s most urgent challenges, including in international public health, food security, aviation safety and climate changes. Taiwan has also demonstrated ability and willingness to help support the global community, the U.S. agency added.
The ministry said the U.S. side also reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the U.N. System and the international community, including the World Health Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The MOFA said such unwavering support from the U.S. is sincerely appreciated by the government and people of Taiwan. The two sides agreed to continue working closely together through innovative approaches to garner stronger support from around the world for Taiwan’s expanded international participation, it added.
