A delegation led by Czech Senate First Vice President Jiří Drahoš arrived in Taiwan June 10 for a six-day visit to the country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 19-member group comprises Jana Havlikova, deputy minister for science, research and innovation; Petr Očko, deputy minister of industry and trade; National Museum Director General Michal Lukeš; and other officials and technology academics and experts.

Highlights of the delegation’s itinerary include audiences with President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, meetings with Premier Cho Jung-tai and Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han and a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. They will exchange views on issues of mutual concern including culture, economy, education, technology and trade to deepen cooperation in sectors spanning arts, key industries, science development and personnel training, the MOFA said.

Drahoš is scheduled to attend a seminar on semiconductor investment opportunities in Czechia and witness the signing of an exhibition loan agreement between Taiwan’s National Palace Museum and the National Museum in Prague. He will also open an exhibition on Czech castles and chateaus at the Taipei City-based National Taiwan Museum and launch a program on enhancing Taiwan-Czech supply chain resilience, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, Drahoš has promoted exchanges over a long period. The ministry cited his facilitation in signing six memorandums of understanding including those on semiconductors, education, culture, universities and museums in 2022, adding that such pacts have strengthened bilateral connections in industry, key technology and supply chain resilience.

Taiwan and the Czech Republic are deepening cooperation across the board based on shared values of freedom and democracy, the MOFA said, adding that this will promote national development and benefit people.
