MOFA welcomes statement from US, Japan, Korea supporting Taiwan

The staunch support for cross-strait peace expressed by the vice foreign ministers of the U.S., Japan and South Korea is sincerely appreciated by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said June 1.
According to the MOFA, the statement was issued by the U.S. Department of State following the United States-Japan-Republic of Korea Trilateral Vice Foreign Minister-Level Dialogue staged May 31 in Washington D.C.
The statement reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element of security and prosperity in the international community. It also strongly opposed any unilateral attempt to change the status quo in the Indo-Pacific, and calls for the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues.
According to the MOFA, the statement takes a similar stance to that of the Camp David Principles, released by the leaders of the same three countries after their summit last August in the U.S. state of Maryland.
The MOFA said China’s coercive narratives and ongoing military pressure continue to pose serious challenges to regional safety and the rules-based international order, adding that such behaviors cause grave concern.
As a responsible stakeholder in the global community, Taiwan remains committed to working with Japan, Korea, the U.S. and other like-minded partners to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and contribute to development issues throughout world, the ministry said.
