A resolution adopted by the Senate of the Czech Republic calling for Taiwan’s engagement in international organizations is welcomed by the country’s government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said May 30.
Passed May 29, the resolution reiterated support for Taiwan’s participation in U.N. agencies such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, Interpol, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the World Health Organization.
The resolution characterized Taiwan as an important partner in the Indo-Pacific and noted that President Petr Pavel has advocated deepening cooperation with Taiwan to solve global problems since taking office last year. The resolution added that the like-minded partners share democratic values and enjoy close collaboration in areas spanning culture, education, investment, science and technology, and tourism.
During the General Debate May 28 at the World Health Assembly, Czechia’s Deputy Minister of Health Radek Policar said that the principle of equality must be respected, and health is a universal right. He added that Czechia fully supports Taiwan’s bid to gain observer status at the WHA.
According to the MOFA, the Czech Senate has approved pro-Taiwan resolutions every year since 2021, demonstrating its staunch support of Taiwan’s international participation. The ministry will continue to work with the Czech government to benefit the people of both countries and jointly contribute to global peace, prosperity and stability, it added.
