MOFA thanks US for congratulations on presidential inauguration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude May 21 to Mike Johnson, speaker of the United States House of Representatives; Hakeem Jeffries, leader of the House Democratic Caucus; Nancy Pelosi, former House Speaker; the House Foreign Affairs Committee; the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; and co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus for their congratulations to President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim on the occasion of the May 20 inauguration.

According to the MOFA, Johnson, Jeffries, Pelosi and cross-party lawmakers sent messages either by email, in statements or via social media platform X, demonstrating strong U.S. congressional support for Taiwan’s democracy.

The ministry appreciated the U.S. administration and Congress’ timely messages in support of Taiwan’s new presidency, as well as their long-standing backing for two-way ties. Based on the solid bond, Taiwan will continue to further cooperation with the U.S. across the board and safeguard the peace, stability and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific.
