2024/04/18

The arrival of a delegation from Kosovo April 16 is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Led by Kosovo’s former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, the group comprises former Deputy Prime Minister Driton Selmanaj; co-chair of the Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group, Artan Abrashi; member of the Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Time Kadrijaj; and business representatives.

During their five-day stay, delegation members will be received by Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te, meet with Premier Chen Chien-jen, Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu and attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu. They will also call on the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Hsinchu Science Park and the country’s key medical facilities.

Group members will focus on discussing issues including the bilateral relationship and parliamentary cooperation while expanding exchanges in areas of economics, health care, technology and trade, the ministry said.

The current visit follows the first trip of a Kosovar cross-party parliamentary group to Taiwan last March, the MOFA said, further indicating that the Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group was established in 2021 and is the first of its kind in the western Balkans.

Taiwan and Kosovo share values of freedom and democracy, and are both striving for a stronger international presence, the MOFA said. The ministry welcomes like-minded partners to expand exchanges with Taiwan to jointly advance regional peace and stability while enhancing democratic resilience and global prosperity, the ministry added.
