Foreign Minister Wu receives Paraguay ICT Minister Villate

Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu received a delegation from Paraguay March 21 in Taipei City and pledged to further deepen the already robust ties, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The group is led by Gustavo Emigdio Villate Samaniego, minister of information and communication technologies, and includes Jorge Daniel Duarte Rolón, president of the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, and the minister’s advisor Horacio José Caniza Vierci.
Wu said he had a great meeting with Paraguay President Santiago Peña in which they exchanged views on a wide range of issues while the two were in Guatemala to attend the inauguration of President Bernardo Arévalo in January. Peña also offered his congratulations to President-elect Lai Ching-te and his running mate Hsiao Bi-khim later during a video conference, he added.
The minister praised the two countries’ long-standing partnership and close interactions, adding that Taiwan will continue to assist Paraguay with national development projects for the benefit of the people on both sides.
Villate offered warm regards to the government and people of Taiwan on behalf of his president. He thanked Taiwan for helping promote key development initiatives in Paraguay and stressed the two allies’ strong ties.
The delegation attended the 2024 Smart City Summit and Expo as well as the 2050 Net Zero City Expo and was highly impressed by Taiwan’s policymaking, high-tech prowess and education system, Villate said.
During its March 17-21 stay, the group also attended a banquet hosted by MOFA Vice Minister Remus Li-kuo Chen and visited the Ministry of Digital Affairs’ Administration for Cyber Security, Ministry of Health and Welfare’s National Health Insurance Administration, National Science and Technology Council, National Communications Commission and National Institute of Cyber Security, among other key facilities, the MOFA said.
