Taiwan, US stage 4th high-level dialogue under joint education initiative

The fourth high-level dialogue under the Taiwan-U.S. Education Initiative that took place March 4 in Taipei City and Washington, D.C. underscores both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation on international education.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan’s delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Education Lio Mon-chi and comprised Overseas Community Affairs Council Minister Hsu Chia-ching and Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. Rep. Alexander Tah-ray Yui, while National Security Council Deputy Secretary-General Hsu Szu-chien took part virtually.
The U.S. delegation was led by Daniel J. Kritenbrink, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, and included EAP Deputy Assistant Secretary Camille Dawson, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marianne Craven, Department of Education Chief of Staff Lexi Barrett and American Institute in Taiwan Chair Laura Rosenberger.
The MOE said the half-day event saw both sides review progress to date in areas spanning bilingual education, elementary and high school exchanges, Mandarin learning and semiconductor talent cultivation, in addition to identifying priority areas for future collaboration.
As both countries celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, this dialogue further demonstrates their robust ties, the MOFA said. The ministry will continue to work to deepen the partnership and ensure a free, democratic and diverse education environment, it added.
Launched in 2020, the initiative expands access to Mandarin and English language instruction while safeguarding academic freedom, according to the MOFA.d practice religious faith in public, among other factors, as examples of categories in which the country scored highly.
