Taiwan FDA gains ICMRA associate membership
2024/02/23
The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration under the Ministry of Health and Welfare recently became an associate member of the EU-based International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities, the MOHW said in a statement Feb. 21.
According to the ministry, the ICMRA is a voluntary international and nonpolitical consortium of drug authorities established in 2013 to address global regulatory issues while enhancing communication and information sharing.
Its 24 full members and 15 associate members regularly produce academic papers, host innovation workshops and hold emergency public health clinical trials, among other key actions.
The TFDA plans to actively participate in all ICMRA working groups and initiatives to keep up to date with the latest global regulatory developments and exchange information with counterparts from around the world, the MHOW added.
In a press release issued the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the ICMRA’s decision, stating that the development represents global recognition of Taiwan’s pharmaceutical laws and practices.
The membership also proves the efficacy of the government’s professional, pragmatic and contributory approach to expanding Taiwan’s global engagement, the MOFA said.
The MOFA will continue to work with the TFDA to enhance its ICMRA participation and bring the country’s related policies and practices further in line with global standards, the ministry added.
