Exhibitions to begin at Taiwan’s national comic museum
2023/12/22
The events are in advance of the official museum opening, which when complete will be housed in a cultural park, site of a former Japanese colonial-era (1895-1945) prison. During a press event held Dec. 19 at the site, Cultural Minister Shih Che said the events provide an opportunity for the public to see the development of the NTMC so far, adding that the exhibits are like a holiday season gift to visitors.
According to the MOC, comic fans will enjoy a unique immersive experience at eight exhibitions which display popular Taiwan comics from the 1950s to the 2010s, as well as original artwork created by Japan’s comic series Speed Racer character designer, Yoshitaka Amano.
The creator of Japan’s manga series Yomawari Neko, Kaoru Fukaya, will also be at the site to showcase her work, while Taiwan’s award-winning animation director and comic artist Wang Deng-yu will exhibit models from cartoons such as “The Lost Robot: Where Is A-No Going?”
In addition, the site features three reading areas with vintage book racks from traditional comic book rental shops, a public DIY graffiti space and an outdoor immersive animation theater, the MOC said.
