The 2023 Joint Committee Meeting under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework was staged Dec. 6 in Taipei City, underscoring commitment among Taiwan and its like-minded partners to tackling global challenges.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event was organized in collaboration with the American Institute in Taiwan, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association and Australian Office, Taipei. The British Office Taipei and Canadian Trade Office in Taipei were involved as observers, while other partners from Washington D.C., Tokyo and Canberra took part via videoconference.
During the meeting, representatives exchanged views on GCTF sustainability strategies, reviewed results of events held this year and discussed issues to be addressed for 2024. Since its launch in June 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S., with Japan and Australia joining later, GCTF has become a critical platform for contributing discussion on solutions to global issues.
Under the initiative, a total of 70 workshops have been organized with participation of over 7,500 experts and officials from 127 countries and territories on topics spanning energy cooperation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, media literacy, public health and women’s empowerment, the ministry added.
