Taiwan, Czechia sign MOU on Ukraine health care reconstruction assistance

Taiwan and the Czech Republic concluded a memorandum of understanding Dec. 1 on helping Ukraine rebuild its health care system, marking another milestone in the bilateral partnership, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Under the pact, the two sides will provide medical equipment and health care, diagnosis and treatment services, and establish rehabilitation facilities in eastern Ukraine.
 
The MOU was signed over video link by Ke Liang-ruey, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague, and David Steinke, head of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei. Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang, Marek Svoboda, director of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Economic Policy Department, and Tomáš Kopečný, Czech governmental envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine, witnessed the event.
 
According to Tien, such concerted efforts made by Taiwan and the Czech Republic demonstrated how democracies rally together to counter threats from authoritarian regimes. The MOU showed the countries’ determination to continue offering humanitarian assistance to Ukraine while setting an example for the cooperation between the two sides’ medical materials industries, he added.
 
Following his remarks, both Svoboda and Kopečný said Taiwan and Czech value freedom and democracy, adding that the accord will allow Czechia and Ukraine to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s economic and technological prowess. Steinke further expressed his hopes of deepening collaboration across the board.
