2023/11/08

Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang led a delegation to the Cook Islands to attend the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting Nov. 6-13, underscoring the government's commitment to boosting ties with its Pacific allies and like-minded partners, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On behalf of the government, Tien will exchange views with leaders and representatives from diplomatic allies Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands, as well as those from other countries, the ministry said, adding that the deputy minister seeks to enhance Taiwan’s bond with high-level officials of allied nations while exploring opportunities for cooperative projects with attending countries to raise Taiwan’s international profile.

PIF is one of the major international organizations in the Pacific, and Taiwan’s four allies in the region are all member states. Since 1993, Taiwan has participated in the forum’s activities, mechanisms and meetings as a development partner, the ministry added.

Taiwan will continue to expand collaboration with allies and other like-minded PIF members, especially in the fields of clean energy, climate change, food safety and talent cultivation, to contribute to the development, peace, stability and prosperity of the Pacific, the MOFA said.
