2023/10/31

The visit of a delegation from the U.S. state of Montana to Taiwan is sincerely welcomed by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oct. 29.

Led by Governor Greg Gianforte, the group is composed of economy and trade representatives from the Treasure State.

During the group’s six-day trip, members will have an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen, meet with Premier Chen Chien-jen, attend a reception hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Roy Chun Lee and hold dialogues with governmental agencies and local industry representatives, the MOFA said.

The governor will also witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding on education, as well as an agreement between the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei and the Montana Department of Commerce, the ministry said, adding that the two pacts are expected to reinforce collaboration in the fields of education, economy and trade.

According to the MOFA, Gianforte demonstrated his high regard for the country soon after he took office in 2021 by reopening the State of Montana Asia Trade Office-Taiwan. Additionally, this trip marks his first overseas visit since he became governor, the ministry said.

With the already robust ties, the delegation’s visit is expected to expand bilateral cooperation across the board while further deepening the two sides’ mutually beneficial partnership, the MOFA added.
