2023/10/27
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu hosted a banquet for the Lithuanian delegation led by Seimas Speaker Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen Oct. 24 in Taipei City.
Prior to the formal dinner, the two sides witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral health cooperation. At the same time a formal decision on a pact to eliminate double taxation and related fiscal matters was made.
Wu said that Speaker Cmilyte-Nielsen’s visit was a milestone in the countries’ relationship, based on shared values of democracy and freedom. The two sides anticipate deepened exchanges in financial and digital technology, which the minister believed will strengthen global supply chain resilience.
In response, Cmilyte-Nielsen said that democracies should unite and work in collaboration to face current global challenges. The two sides exchanged views on a range of other issues including culture, finance and security.
Flourishing ties with Lithuania are evidenced by four vice-ministerial visits from the country during 2023, four signed MOUs and bilateral dialogue on agriculture, economy and trade. MOFA expects to continue expanding comprehensive exchange with the Baltic state.
