MOFA stages 2023 International Organizations Day

2023/10/24

An exhibition celebrating Taiwan achievements in expanding global participation was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oct. 21 at Taipei Guest House in the capital.

The 2023 International Organizations Day was the second of its kind organized by the MOFA. Involving over 20 government agencies, international organizations and entities, the event showcased the important role that Taiwan plays in response to various international challenges.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu said in his opening address that “Taiwan can help, Taiwan is always here,” is not just a slogan, but rather the embodiment of core Taiwan values. The philosophy is evidenced by the country’s donation of over 51 million face masks internationally, as well as through public and private sector aid contributions to Ukrainian and Turkish refugees.

Due to China’s insistence, the United Nations has misinterpreted U.N. Resolution 2758 and excluded Taiwan from the organization, Wu said. However, Taiwan has acquired wider international support through its positive actions, demonstrating that there is raised awareness of Taiwan’s global role.

In response, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ambassador Andrea Clare Bowman reiterated that Taiwan has long been selfless in helping its allies and like-minded partners and is highly appreciated by the citizens of these countries.
