The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a message congratulating Poland on its successful parliamentary election Oct. 15 and expressed its eager anticipation to work with the new government.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Poland share the values of democracy, freedom and respect for human rights and the rule of law. On that basis they have cooperated closely in the fields of biomedicine, culture, economy, education, justice and trade while continuing exchanges in epidemic prevention, information security and semiconductors, the ministry said.
In recent years, the two countries have signed memorandums of understanding on electric vehicles, hydrogen energy, lab operations, information exchange and scientific research, the MOFA said, adding that Poland generously donated 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan during the height of the pandemic.
In April this year, the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Group unanimously passed a resolution to issue a statement supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, including the World Health Organization. The legislators additionally expressed serious concern about China’s military exercises around Taiwan.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Taiwan and Poland worked together to offer relief to Ukrainians who took refuge in Poland, giving further evidence of the genuine bond between the like-minded countries, the MOFA said.
Under the already robust ties, the MOFA said it looks forward to even deeper cooperation with the new Polish government as they work to jointly promote regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
