MOFA welcomes upcoming visit by Nauru president

The upcoming visit by Nauru President Russ Joseph Kun and his delegation is welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oct. 5.
Set to arrive Oct. 8, the 17-member group will also include Minister for Education Richard-Hyde Menke, Substantive Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Dominic Joselito Tabuna, Deputy Minister for Land Management Jason Bingham Agir and members of Parliament.
During their five-day stay, the group will have an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen, take part in Double Tenth National Day celebrations and attend banquets hosted by Tsai and MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, with Kun scheduled to deliver an opening address at the seventh Yushan Forum Oct. 11 in Taipei City.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Nauru enjoy close cooperation in areas spanning agriculture, climate change, clean energy, education, fisheries, infrastructure, information and communications technology, public health, maritime patrols and medical care. The Pacific ally’s staunch backing for the country’s participation in international organizations such as the World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization and U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change is deeply appreciated, the ministry added.
