Creative Expo Taiwan gets underway in Taipei
2023/09/26
The 2023 Creative Expo Taiwan kicked off Sept. 22 in Taipei City, highlighting the country’s dynamic cultural creative industry and the spirit of innovation.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the 10-day fair features over 100 arts and intellectual property licensing-themed exhibitions, forums, performances, seminars and workshops at five main venues in Taipei: Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Taipei Expo Park, Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-Lab) and Preparatory Office of National Railway Museum.
According to the MOC, the Creative Expo is also hosted in venues throughout Taiwan, including the National Museum of Prehistory in eastern Taiwan’s Taitung County; National Museum of Taiwan History and Fort Zeelandia Museum in the southern city of Tainan; National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute in the central country of Nantou; and National Taiwan Museum in Taipei.
MOC Minister Shih Che said during the Sept. 21 opening ceremony at C-Lab that the government has been revitalizing disused and historic spaces in Taipei City since the 1980s. The C-Lab, a former Air Force Command headquarters and now the main CET venue, serves as a model for other cultural development projects in the capital, he added.
Among the eclectic mix of events for the expo are circus performances, the “Working in Progress GPU” project that transforms the former Air Force Headquarters building into a sound and light stage with projection mapping shows, a naked-eye virtual reality immersive exhibition “Future Vision Lab,” an exhibition that displays documents and artifacts relating to the building’s history as well as artificial intelligence-generated videos that illustrates the venue’s other potential uses, the ministry added.
Highlights at other expo venues include test rides on the Breezy Blue vintage train at the NRM, a forum discussing international IP operation and marketing strategies for cartoon characters taking place at Huashan and an exhibition of Taiwan craft brands at Songshan, according to the MOC.
Launched in 2010, the annual CET plays a key role in MOC’s strategic promotion of the cultural and creative industry. The sector was first included in the national development plan in 2002 and further prioritized following promulgation of the Law for the Development of the Cultural and Creative Industries in 2010.
