The visit of a delegation led by Professor Yasuhiro Matsuda from the University of Tokyo is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sept.8.
Arriving Sept. 11, the 10-member group comprises renowned experts and academics specializing in cross-strait relations and Taiwan’s politics and international status.
During the contingent’s five-day stay, the members will meet with Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan, Control Yuan Vice President Lee Hung-chun, National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Straits Exchange Foundation Chair David Lee and Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh, according to the MOFA.
The group is Japan’s only academic team that conducts interuniversity and interdisciplinary studies on Taiwan. The members visit Taiwan annually and exchange views on Taiwan-Japan affairs and cross-strait issues with officials and experts from various sectors while providing relevant research results, MOFA said.
The delegation’s visit will facilitate Japanese academia’s understanding of Taiwan and current cross-strait conditions, as well as stimulate the Japanese people’s concern for Taiwan affairs and regional security, the ministry added.
