MOFA thanks US, Japan, South Korea leaders for supporting cross-strait peace

The remarks of leaders from the U.S., Japan and South Korea that reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait were sincerely welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aug 19.
In the Camp David Principles released following the Aug. 18 trilateral summit in the U.S. state of Maryland, U.S. President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said cross-strait peace and stability is “an indispensable element of security and prosperity in the international community” and called for a peaceful resolution of issues in the area.
According to the MOFA, China has escalated coercion attempts and military threats against Taiwan and is challenging regional security. Similar sentiments were expressed at last November’s trilateral summit and in the joint statements issued after numerous meetings earlier this year between the leaders of the U.S. and South Korea, the U.S. and Canada, the U.S. and Japan, the U.S. and the Philippines, and the Group of Seven, the MOFA said, adding that such strong backing underscores the consensus of countries worldwide.
As a responsible member of the global community, Taiwan will continue to work with like-minded partners such as the U.S., Japan and South Korea to jointly promote prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the ministry said.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “We welcome the staunch support for #TaiwanStrait peace & stability expressed at the #US-#Japan-#ROK leaders summit & thank @POTUS, @kishida230 & @President_KR for their assertiveness in the face of #China’s military exercises around #Taiwan.”
