2023/08/17
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu received a delegation of permanent representatives to the U.N. Office in Geneva from four diplomatic allies and expressed gratitude for their continuous support of Taiwan in various international contexts Aug. 15 in Taipei City.
According to the MOFA, the group included Vuyile Dumisani Dlamini of Eswatini, Doreen deBrum of the Marshall Islands, Angela Maria Chavez Bietti of Guatemala and Chitra Jeremiah of Nauru.
Wu said that despite Taiwan’s capable, responsible presence in the global community, it is unjustly excluded from the UN system. The country’s government and people are therefore grateful for the firm loyalty of allies who facilitate and support Taiwan’s bids to expand global involvement, the minister added.
In response, Dlamini emphasized that Taiwan is a friend of the world and Eswatini will unwaveringly speak on its behalf, urging UN inclusion at every opportunity, while Chavez Bietti echoed Dlamini’s remarks, saying that it is Guatemala’s view that the world needs Taiwan.
Taiwan’s assistance in public health and agricultural techniques was also highly appreciated by the representatives. Prior to the meeting with Wu, the delegation visited the National Human Rights Commission and the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, and deemed them both crucial factors that make Taiwan a role model for the world, the MOFA said.
