President Tsai said Aug. 10 that Taiwan will continue to work with the U.S. and other like-minded partners to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and around the world.
Tsai made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue University. The group is led by Keith Krach, the think tank’s chair and former U.S. undersecretary of state for economic growth, energy and the environment.
According to Tsai, the government looks forward to deepening bilateral ties through diverse dialogue mechanisms and expediting the signing of an avoidance of double taxation agreement. The president mentioned the June signing of the first agreement under the Taiwan-U.S. Initiative on 21st-Century Trade as a promising step toward these goals.
Tsai also commended Krach for his staunch friendship toward Taiwan and his foresight in creating the institute. His efforts in facilitating the establishment of the Economic Prosperity Partnership and the signing of the Science and Technology Agreement are sincerely appreciated by the government and people, she added.
In response, Krach said Taiwan is at the heart of the U.S.’ global economic security strategy, not only because of its remarkable achievements in democracy and high-tech innovation, but also because of its true friendship with Washington.
His institute has been tasked by the U.S. Congress to create a global tech security strategy, Krach said, adding that it is planning a Taiwan Center for Innovation and Prosperity to further bolster Taiwan’s prosperity, global standing and sovereignty as part of this mission.
The chair commended the president for advancing freedom through technology and expressed his hope that the two sides will continue to expand their partnership to inspire the world.
