Taiwan and Poland collaborate on aid to Ukraine

2023/08/01

Head of the Taipei Representative Office in Poland, Bob L. J. Chen, signed a cooperation agreement with Wojtek Wilk, president and CEO of the Polish Center for International Aid, to offer aid to Ukraine on behalf of the Taiwan government, July 29 in Poland.

The agreement was witnessed by National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin, who is currently leading a delegation to visit Poland.

Taiwan and Poland will cooperate on projects including rebuilding hospitals, schools and senior citizens’ homes. They will also establish single women’s employment services offices and remote teaching centers for teenagers, in addition to transporting aid supplies to refugee centers inside Ukrainian territory, the MOFA said.

In the wake of Russia’s invasion, many Ukrainians were displaced, resulting in a lack of medical, educational and social welfare resources. Poland has both experience in international relief and technical personnel familiar with Ukraine, thus leading to effective delivery of aid.

The MOFA said Taiwan and Ukraine are countries that share universal values of freedom, democracy and human rights. Both are frontline neighbors to authoritarian regimes, thus Taiwan will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
