The upcoming visit by a delegation from the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) is welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 18.
Set to arrive July 25, the 15-member group will be led by a committee vice chair and includes cross-party parliamentarians, secretariat officials and policy consultants.
During its three-day stay, the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te, as well as with National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo and Digital Minister Audrey Tang. In addition the delegation will attend banquets hosted by Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun and MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, the MOFA said.
Group members will discuss Indo-Pacific strategies and diplomatic affairs cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies to further strengthen relations with Taiwan and other like-minded partners in the region, the ministry added.
According to the MOFA, the AFET delegation follows visits to Taiwan by the EP Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation, in 2021, and its Committee on International Trade last year. Such outreach underscores staunch EP support for Taiwan, the MOFA said, adding that the government will continue to work with partners like the EU to drive stronger focus on peace, stability and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait by European countries.
