MOFA sincerely welcomes the upcoming visit of Paraguay President-elect

The upcoming visit by Paraguayan President-elect Santiago Pena, future first lady Leticia Ocampos and other officials is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 9.
Set to arrive July 11, the group will include members of Pena’s incoming Cabinet, such as Ruben Ramirez Lezcano for foreign affairs, Carlos Fernandez Valdovinos for finance, and Francisco Gimenez García de Zuniga for commerce and industry, MOFA said.
July 12 marks the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Taiwan and Paraguay, and Pena’s decision to visit at this significant moment is a powerful way to deepen the allies’ long-standing bond.
During the five-day stay, the delegation will attend state banquets hosted by President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te and exchange views on bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual concern. The president-elect will also meet with Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua and Minister of Health and Welfare Hsueh Jui-yuan. In addition, the Paraguayan officials will visit National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, join in an industry forum and visit other economic and cultural facilities.
According to the MOFA, the two countries’ history of collaborative projects have benefited the people of Taiwan and Paraguay alike by boosting economic and social development. The ministry added that Taiwan deeply appreciates Paraguay’s strong, continued support in the United Nations, World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, International Criminal Police Organization and United Nations Climate Change Conferences.
