MOFA welcomes Canadian parliamentarians

The visit of a cross-party Canadian parliamentary delegation is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 4.

Led by Melissa Lantsman, deputy leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, the eight-member group includes representatives from the Foreign Affairs and International Development Committee, the International Trade Committee, the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Committee and the Procedure and House Affairs Committee.

During their visit, delegation members will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President Lai Ching-te, and National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo, and will attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu. The group will also exchange views with senior officials and experts from various sectors on bilateral ties and cross-strait security.

According to the MOFA, at a time when China continues to escalate regional tensions, the delegation’s visit is a powerful demonstration of Canada’s support for Taiwan. As close partners who share common values of democracy, freedom, human rights, the parliamentarians’ experiences during their visit will serve to deepen the Taiwan-Canada partnership, MOFA added. ies’ coercion of democratic nations and supports international collaboration to sustain regional peace and stability.
