MOFA welcomes US House RSC delegation to Taiwan

2023/07/05

The arrival of a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives’ Republican Study Committee in Taiwan is sincerely welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 3.

The delegation is led by Committee Chair Kevin Hern and comprises fellow Reps. Burgess Owens, Mike Flood, Mike Collins, Russell Fry and Keith Self.

During their five-day stay, the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te, attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and call on senior officials and think tank experts to exchange views on Taiwan-U.S. relations and other key issues.

According to the MOFA, the RSC was established in 1973 and currently consists of 175 House representatives, the majority of whom are long-term Taiwan supporters who have played a key role in congressional initiatives calling for expanded bilateral security and trade ties and Taiwan’s global participation, it said.

As China’s aggression continues to escalate regional tension, the MOFA said visits by the RSC and other congressional delegations underscore their unwavering commitment to standing with Taiwan.

The visit is expected to greatly enhance the lawmakers’ understanding of regional developments and promote cooperation across the board between the two like-minded partners, the ministry added.
