2023/06/09

The Third Session of the Taiwanese-Slovak Commission on Economic Cooperation wrapped up June 6 in Taipei City, concluding with seven memorandums of understanding and an agreement pledging to deepen the partnership.

During a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said the event was of great significance, marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of reciprocal representative offices.

The protocol and the pacts signed following the commission pave the way for greater cooperation on culture, economy and trade, intercollegiate exchanges, healthcare and semiconductors, he added.

According to the MOFA, the event was also attended by National Development Council Kung Ming-hsin, Ministry of Health and Welfare Hsueh Jui-yuan and Peter Svec, the EU member state’s deputy minister of economy.

Under the pacts, collaboration will be expanded on the development of electric vehicle hybrid module, power device and technical services, among other sectors, while Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University, National Central University and Yuan Ze University will step up exchanges with Comenius University.

Another highlight is the NDC’s announcement that the Central and Eastern European Investment Fund will invest 3 million euros in Bratislava-based Sensoneo, a smart waste management solution provider. This will be the second investment by the state-backed fund into the EU member state.

Taiwan and Slovakia are like-minded partners that enjoy robust ties with great success across a wide spectrum of areas, the MOFA said, adding that the fourth session of the commission will take place next year in the European country.

The two sides will continue leveraging this solid foundation to deepen relationships in industrial cooperation, investment, supply chain security and trade while promoting greater unity and resilience in the democratic world, the ministry added.
