Taiwan held a Global Cooperation and Training Framework conference in St. Vincent and the Grenadines June 6 to promote employment and economic revitalization in Caribbean and Latin American countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event, entitled “Tending to Tomorrow’s Talents Today,” focused on expanding the development of human resources, vocational education and women’s empowerment. According to the MOFA, the event attracted over 100 government officials and academics from Taiwan, the U.S. and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The opening ceremony was co-hosted by Peter Sha-li Lan, Taiwan’s ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Linda Taglialatela, the U.S. ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; and Montgomery Daniel, the deputy prime minister of St. Vincent and Grenadines. After the event, attendees visited Taiwan’s vocational education and training institutions in St. Vincent and Grenadines to experience the country’s contributions to its Caribbean ally in person.
GCTF was established by Taiwan and the U.S. in 2015 and began expanding in 2021, said the MOFA, adding that the framework has since held events in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and the Asia-Pacific to great effect.
