President Tsai Ing-wen received Themba Masuku, deputy prime minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, and his delegation June 6 at the Presidential Office, pledging to continue deepening ties with the African country.
Eswatini is an important ally of Taiwan, and the two sides enjoy robust bilateral relations best evidenced by the numerous visits by King Mswati III, Tsai’s visit to the African state in 2018 and multiple economic and trade dialogues over the years, the president said.
Since concluding a cooperative pact in March this year, the allies have cultivated an even closer partnership in agriculture, the economy and trade, education and medicine, she added.
Tsai thanked Masuku for taking part in the “Taiwan Night—Celebrating Women in Tech” event staged by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. His remarks recognizing Taiwan’s achievements in women’s empowerment and calling for the country’s international participation are sincerely appreciated, she said.
As a force for good in the global community, Taiwan is willing and able to help safeguard peace across the Taiwan Strait and make greater contributions to the world, Tsai said, adding that the government will keep cooperating with partners like Eswatini going forward.
In response, Masuku thanked Taiwan for assisting his country in key areas such as agriculture, information and communications technology, education, health and human resources development.
According to Masuku, Taiwan has provided tremendous aid in enhancing Eswatini’s energy efficiency and disaster preparedness and mitigation, constructing a state-of-the art hospital, and providing key medical supplies to protect the country’s people during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a continuation of their warm relationship spanning over 50 years, Eswatini will continue standing with Taiwan and firmly supporting its participation in the U.N. system and other international organizations, Masuku said.
