Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang met with Palau President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. on June 5 during his visit to Palau, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tien held an in-depth discussion with Whipps, Palau House of Delegates Speaker Sabino Anastacio and other officials. The two sides discussed issues including Austronesian culture, education and training, medical cooperation and sports exchange.
The two countries’ central and local governments collaborated closely on the Belau Omal Marathon’s planning and organization, held June 4, which was a model example of a successful event, MOFA added.
While expressing his appreciation for Taiwan’s contribution to the event, Whipps emphasized that the marathon gained solid experience for local organizers for future large-scale events and symbolized Palau’s effective interaction with the world in the post-pandemic era.
Valuing strong ties with the Republic of Palau, as evidenced by Vice President Lai Ching-te’s 2022 visit, Taiwan will continue to cooperate closely in various fields to deepen mutually beneficial partnerships and enhance bilateral long-term friendship, the ministry added.
