The May 8-12 visit by a delegation from ally St. Kitts and Nevis is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Led by Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley, the delegation includes Konris Maynard, minister of public infrastructure, energy and utilities, domestic transport, information, communication and technology and posts; Ambassadors-at-large Kenneth Douglas and Leon Natta-Nelson; and Permanent Secretary of Education Lisa-Romayne Pistana.
According to the MOFA, this is Hanley’s first visit in his current position. During the five-day stay, he will meet with Vice President Lai Ching-te to discuss matters of mutual interest. He will also meet with MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and attend a banquet hosted by Wu.
Other highlights of the trip include calls at the Ministry of Labor’s central Taiwan branch office, two education institutions in Taipei City and a wind power plant at Taichung Harbor, as well as top cultural facilities like the National Palace Museum in the capital.
Since establishing official ties in 1983, Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis have enjoyed close cooperation in key areas such as climate resilience, education, information and communications technology, medical care, sustainability, tourism and women’s empowerment, the MOFA said.
The Caribbean ally is also a strong supporter of Taiwan’s global participation, the ministry said, citing the recent unanimous passing of a legislative resolution backing Taiwan’s participation in the U.N. and affiliated organizations including the World Health Organization, U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and International Civil Aviation Organization, as well as Interpol.
Taiwan will continue to deepen partnership with its ally across the board to benefit the people of both sides while promoting the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, the ministry added.
