The deputy permanent representatives from Guatemala, Poland and the EU to the World Trade Organization are welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The officials, Marco Tulio Molina Tejeda from Guatemala, Katarzyna Stecz of Poland and Hiddo Houben of the EU, touched down May 2 and are scheduled to visit the Executive Yuan’s Office of Trade Negotiations, the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Finance’s Customs Administration.
During their four-day stay, the group will tour Hsinchu Science Park in the northern city, Industrial Technology Research Institute in neighboring Hsinchu County, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei City. They will also participate in a symposium on WTO challenges and reforms to share their trade negotiation experience and their thoughts on the direction of future development.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan has actively engaged in multilateral negotiations and consultations to protect the interests of domestic industries since joining the WTO in 2002. The current visit permits Taiwan to exhibit its economic facilities to international partners and will strengthen its interactions with other countries’ WTO missions, the ministry added.
