President Tsai Ing-wen received a delegation led by Marketa Pekarova Adamova, speaker of Czechia’s Chamber of Deputies, March 27 in Taipei City and pledged to further strengthen the already robust bilateral ties, according to the Presidential Office.
The 160-member delegation is the largest from the Central European country since 1993, the year Taiwan and Czechia established their respective representative offices. It follows the previous 89-member group led by Senate President Milos Vystrcil in August 2020, the PO said.
According to Tsai, Taiwan and Czechia are unwavering partners who have undergone similar struggles for democracy. The two countries also enjoy growing exchanges in green energy and smart machinery, among other sectors, with plans in the works to collaborate in education and semiconductors, she said.
The president described Pekarova Adamova's visit as another milestone in the two-way relationship, adding that Taiwan will continue working with Czechia and other members of the free world in key areas to ensure regional peace and stability.
In response, Pekarova Adamova said the visit underscores her country’s support for Taiwan and its commitment to bolstering cooperation for the benefit of all. Taiwan is a priority partner and a key part of Czechia’s new Indo-Pacific strategy, she said, adding that cross-strait peace and stability is a prerequisite to global security and prosperity.
Czechia will continue to support Taiwan’s global participation, Pekarova Adamova said, adding that she expects China Airlines’ new direct route between Taipei and Prague to bring the two sides even closer together.
