The delegation led by St. Lucia Foreign Minister Alva R. Baptiste to Taiwan is sincerely welcomed by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Arriving March 13 at the invitation of MOFA, the group also comprises Minister of Youth Development and Sports Kenson J. Casimir and Sen. Lisa C. Jawahir.
During its five-day stay, the group will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu. They will additionally attend a banquet hosted by Wu and call on the Civil Aeronautics Administration and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
The delegates are scheduled to visit the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association and APEX Flight Academy, as well as tour key cultural and tourist sites such as National Taiwan Museum, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area.
According to the MOFA, since the two countries re-established official ties in 2007, bilateral collaboration has been progressing apace in areas spanning agriculture, climate resilience, education, information and communications technology, medical care, sustainable development, tourism and women’s empowerment.
The Caribbean ally is a long-term supporter of Taiwan’s global participation, the MOFA said, citing letters Baptiste sent to the World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization and Interpol in 2022 to call for Taiwan’s inclusion.
During the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 27th Conference of the Parties, Baptiste also urged that Taiwan not be left out of global cooperation, the ministry added.
