MOFA welcomes appointment of new AIT chair Rosenberger
2023/03/06
The appointment of Laura Rosenberger as new chair of the American Institute in Taiwan board is sincerely welcomed, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs March 2.
The MOFA lauded the senior diplomat’s considerable experience with Indo-Pacific affairs and broader global issues.
Most recently, Rosenberger served as the Senior Director for China and Taiwan on the National Security Council at the White House where she often exchanged ideas on Taiwan-U.S. relations across a wide range of topics, the MOFA said.
Rosenberger is slated to take up the post March 20 when James F. Moriarty retires. She previously held important positions at the State Department and the NSC, including chief of staff to then-Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, NSC director for China and Korea, Bilateral Political Unit chief on the State Department’s China Desk, and special assistant on the Asia-Pacific to William J. Burns, who was undersecretary of state for political affairs.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and the U.S. are like-minded partners that share values such as democracy and respect for human rights. The ministry will work closely with the new AIT chair to build on the foundation of the two countries’ established cooperation.
