2023/03/03
A raft of bills advanced Feb. 28 by congressional committees under the U.S. House of Representatives to strengthen support for Taiwan are sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Approved by the Financial Services Committee, the Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act, PROTECT Taiwan Act and Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act advocate for Taiwan’s participation in the International Monetary Fund and aim to deter a Chinese invasion via economic mechanisms, the MOFA said. Meanwhile, the Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act passed by the Foreign Affairs Committee requires the State Department to regularly review its guidelines on engagement with Taiwan, the ministry added.
The MOFA said it will remain in close contact with U.S. legislative and executive branches throughout the current congressional session.
The government remains committed to deepening ties with the U.S. in order to promote a free, open, peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific, the ministry added.
