2023/02/20

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu met with Keisal Peters, minister of foreign affairs and trade of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Feb. 16 in Taipei City, pledging to continue expanding ties with the ally.

Visiting Taiwan for the first time since taking office last year, Peters is the first female foreign minister and the only female cabinet member of the SVG. During her visit, she took part in the Empower Women, Empower Latin American and the Caribbean Forum staged Feb. 14-16 in Taipei.

Wu praised Peters as an inspiring example of female participation in public service and said her attendance at the forum was particularly inspiring.

According to Wu, SVG is a key Taiwan ally in the Caribbean, with the two partners enjoying seamless cooperation in a wide range of sectors to the benefit of both sides. Wu added that the government is grateful for SVG’s unwavering support over the years.

Taiwan will continue to work with SVG to expand female economic participation and vocational training for youth, as well as assisting more SVG students to study in Taiwan, he added.

In response, Peters said she commended Taiwan’s achievements in gender equality and also thanked Taiwan for contributing to SVG’s national development.

It is anticipated that the two sides will continue to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchanges, Peters said, adding that her country remains committed to Taiwan and will show that support on the global stage.
