President Tsai Ing-wen said Feb. 14 that Taiwan is committed to working together with St. Vincent and the Grenadines to make the most of opportunities for economic recovery in the post-pandemic era.
The two sides have continued to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen their friendship through numerous exchanges over the years, Tsai said. This is evidenced by the excellent results achieved through cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, agricultural technology, public health and medicine, and education and culture, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while receiving Keisal Peters, minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade for the Caribbean ally.
According to Tsai, Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have also jointly established the Women’s Empowerment Project to boost resources for female entrepreneurs in the Caribbean nation and help working women foster professional skills. Such efforts are laying a solid foundation for people-to-people exchanges.
Tsai also took the opportunity to express gratitude for the long-standing support St. Vincent and the Grenadines has shown Taiwan, including Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves’ speaking out at global events in favor of Taiwan’s international participation.
In response, Peters said Taiwan has been there for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in every sector, adding that the rollout of the women’s economic empowerment program was timely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on women, which was greatly exacerbated by the 2021 volcanic eruption of La Soufriere.
