Minister Wu hosts banquet for AoD delegation

Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu hosted a welcome banquet for a delegation from Denmark-based Alliance of Democracies Foundation Jan. 3 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Taipei City.
The delegation was led by AoD founder Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who previously served as prime minister of the EU member state and NATO secretary general.
Rasmussen is a staunch supporter of Taiwan, Wu said, citing an invitation extended to the minister to address the Copenhagen Democracy Summit in 2019 and annual invitations to President Tsai Ing-wen to attend the same event since 2020.
According to Wu, Taiwan has remained calm and shown self-restraint as it stands on the front line of authoritarian expansion. The country is committed to working with like-minded partners to protect the shared values of freedom and democracy while maintaining security and stability, he said.
In response, Rasmussen described Taiwan as a beacon of democracy in the Indo-Pacific and said the country has undergone tremendous transformations since his last visit in 1994. The delegation’s trip demonstrates the determination of the democratic world to stand in solidarity with Taiwan, he added.
In a tweet on its official account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “In-depth discussions took place at Minister Wu's banquet welcoming @AoDemocracies Founder @AndersFoghR. The former PM of #Denmark & @NATO SG is a firm friend of #Taiwan who ardently urges solidarity among global democracies. We must unite to protect our shared values.”
