A trade delegation from the European Parliament is welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dec. 16.
Led by Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou, vice chair of the Committee on International Trade and Greek member of the European Parliament, the group includes Swedish MEPs Jorgen Warborn and Karin Karlsbro, Belgian MEP Kathleen Van Brempt, French MEP Marie-Pierre Vedrenne, Dutch MEP Michiel Hoogeveen and German MEP Reinhard Butikofer.
Highlights of the delegation’s Dec. 18-21 itinerary include an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen, meetings with Premier Su Tseng-chang, Legislative Yuan Speaker You Si-kun and National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin, as well as a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu.
According to the MOFA, in addition to this being the third official EP visit since 2021, the legislative body has passed eight resolutions backing Taiwan this year, demonstrating staunch support for the country among EU parliamentarians.
As a responsible member of the global community, Taiwan will continue working with allies and like-minded partners such as the EU to protect the rules-based international trade system and promote democratic resilience around the world, the ministry said.
