2022/12/01
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development staged Donor Day Nov. 28 in Taipei City to review the progress of collaborative projects between the two sides.
According to the MOFA, the event saw representatives of the two sides discuss assistance to Ukraine and neighboring countries affected by Russia’s invasion, as well as Taiwan’s participation in the bank’s ongoing business expansion.
Both parties agreed to expand cooperation by leveraging Taiwan’s prowess in the areas of cybersecurity, information and communications technology, smart city development and technological innovation to help more countries fast-track related developments.
Another highlight of the event was the signing of a cooperative agreement declaring Taiwan’s pledge to take part in the Action for Equality and Gender Multi-donor Cooperation Fund (A4EG) recently established by the EBRD.
As a responsible stakeholder in the global community, Taiwan will work hand in hand with the bank to promote gender equality and economic involvement for disadvantaged groups in target countries, especially Ukraine, the MOFA said.
Established in 1991 and headquartered in London, EBRD facilitates countries’ transitions to market-oriented economies and promotes private entrepreneurial initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe, Central and Western Asia, and North Africa.
Taiwan has participated in over 400 EBRD-sponsored projects and supported a wide variety of financing programs around the world through Taipei-based International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), according to the MOFA.
