St. Lucia PM Pierre, delegation arrive in Taiwan

St. Lucia Prime Minister Philip Pierre and his delegation touched down for a five-day visit to Taiwan Nov. 28, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Met upon arrival by MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in the northern city, Pierre is accompanied by Shawn Edward, minister of education, sustainable development, innovation, science, technology and vocational training; Evaristus Jn Marie, chairperson of the National Insurance Corporation; and Daryl Raymond, chairperson of the board of directors of the St. Lucia Development Bank.
During their trip, delegation members will receive a military honor guard welcome and attend a state banquet with President Tsai Ing-wen, followed by meetings with Premier Su Tseng-chang and Wu and a banquet hosted by Wu.
Highlights of the itinerary include visits to the National Police Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, Kaohsiung City Government and Institute for Information Industry.
According to the MOFA, this is the first time Pierre has traveled to Taiwan after taking office as prime minister.
Taiwan and St. Lucia resumed diplomatic relations in 2007, with the countries enjoying solid ties and frequent reciprocal high-level visits. Mutually beneficial cooperation spans a broad spectrum of areas such as climate resilience, education, information and communications, health care, sustainable development, tourism and women empowerment, according to the ministry.
