Science and Technology Minister Wu to visit France, Germany

2022/11/16

Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Tsung-tsong is leading a delegation to France and Germany Nov. 15-25 to expand related cooperation with the two key European countries.

In addition to senior members of the NSTC, the delegation also comprises representatives from Taiwan’s leading R&D organizations, including National Applied Research Laboratories, National Space Organization, Taiwan Semiconductor Institute and Industrial Technology and Research Institute.

The trip follows that of a delegation led by Wu to Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania in October 2021 and underscores the importance the NSTC places on ties with partner agencies in Europe, the council said.

According to the NSTC, Taiwan has maintained a close cooperative relationship with France and Germany in fundamental scientific research and talent cultivation. The visit will pave the way for more collaboration in emerging technologies as the world enters the post-pandemic era, it added.

During their stay in France, Wu and his delegation will visit Arianespace SA to receive updates on Triton, Taiwan’s indigenously developed weather satellite set to launch in March 2023 from French Guiana in South America.

The minister will also take part in the Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Grand Prize award ceremony scheduled for Nov. 23 in Paris, as well as call on leading research organizations.

While in Germany, the delegation will meet with Robert Schloegl, the new president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and visit Helmholtz Association and Max Planck Society to promote cooperation in key research areas, the NSTC said.
