MOFA thanks Slovakia parliament resolution backing Taiwan’s UNFCCC bid

2022/11/15

A resolution calling for Taiwan’s inclusion in the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change by the Foreign Affairs Committee of Slovakia’s National Council is appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nov. 11.

Passed a day earlier, the resolution supports Taiwan’s professional, pragmatic and constructive participation in the UNFCCC. The document additionally highlights how the country’s exclusion from the convention prevents it from sharing resources, expertise and valuable experience that could help realize the world’s net-zero emissions goal.

According to the MOFA, the Slovakia parliament’s foreign affairs, European affairs and health committees passed four resolutions backing Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly and the International Civil Aviation Organization earlier this year.

As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue working with allies and like-minded partners to jointly overcome the challenges and impacts brought about by climate change, the ministry said.

As part of the government’s ongoing campaign to join the UNFCCC, the MOFA recently released a short musical film "Pathway to Net-Zero" to showcase the country’s achievements in promoting green energy. The MOFA urged the UNFCCC to value Taiwan’s contributions to global sustainability efforts and called for the country’s inclusion in its activities, mechanisms and meetings.
