President Tsai Ing-wen held bilateral talks with St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew and his delegation Nov. 8 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City, spotlighting the government’s commitment to deepening partnership with the Caribbean ally.
Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis have faced the challenges of the pandemic together, Tsai said. The government looks forward to further cooperation with the Caribbean ally to revitalize the tourism sectors for both, she added.
Tsai took the opportunity to thank St. Kitts and Nevis for its longstanding backing for Taiwan’s international participation. Drew’s voice of support for the country at this year’s U.N. General Assembly was deeply appreciated, she said.
The president expressed congratulations to Donya Lynex Francis, the new St. Kitts and Nevis ambassador to the ROC (Taiwan). A copy of credentials from Francis was accepted by Tsai before the talks.
In response, Drew reaffirmed St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to deepening diplomatic relations which were established in 1983. The relationship between Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis will continue growing from strength to strength and elevating the population to unprecedented heights of development, he added.
The PM also anticipated that more young people from St. Kitts and Nevis would receive their tertiary education in Taiwan as well as aiming to further advance healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in his position as minister with responsibility for health and wellness.
Following the talks, Tsai held an official banquet for the delegation and stated that the visit marked a milestone in bilateral cooperation and would bring further benefits to both sides.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “At the banquet for #StKittsAndNevis PM Dr. Drew & his delegation, Minister Wu recalled fond memories of his 2019 visit to our breathtaking #Carribean ally, expressed gratitude for its long-standing support of #Taiwan & toasted to the enduring friendship between our countries.””
